On Saturday, May 16, the grand final of Eurovision 2026 took place in Vienna, Austria. This year, 25 countries participated in the contest, and Bulgaria won with 516 points.
This became known from the broadcast of the song contest. The main competitor of the Bulgarian representative was the participant from Israel, but she surpassed the “silver” prize winner by a large margin.
The winner was Darina Nikolaeva Yotova, performing under the stage name DARA. The 27-year-old vocalist lit up the stage with the energetic track Bangaranga. Interestingly, the song’s title has no exact translation.
Important points to note: Bulgaria’s victory highlights the growing popularity of Eastern European performers on the international stage. This may also influence musical trends in Israel, where competition at Eurovision has always been high.
In this context, it is worth mentioning that in recent years Israel has been actively experimenting with musical styles, making its participation in the contest particularly interesting.
Bangaranga — song lyrics
Come alive
Surrender to the blinding lights
No one’s gonna sleep tonight
Welcome to the riot
Come alive
Surrender to the blinding lights
No one’s gonna sleep tonight
Welcome to the riot (I, I, I, I)
(I’m the bangaran—) Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga
(I’m the bangaran—) Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga
(I’m the bangaran—) Blinding lights
Welcome to the riot (I, I, I, I)
I’m the bangaran—
(I know) I’m the bangaran—
I’m an angel, I’m a demon, I’m a psycho for no reason
I’m a mover, I’m a teaser, I don’t follow, I’m the leader
Let me hype ya, hype ya up, let me hype ya up
I’ma, I’ma let you get so hooked, I’ma leave you shook
Come alive
Surrender to the blinding lights
No one’s gonna sleep tonight
Welcome to the riot (I, I, I, I)
(I’m the bangaran—) Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga
(I’m the bangaran—) Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga
(I’m the bangaran—) Blinding lights
Welcome to the riot (I, I, I, I)
I’m the bangaran—
(Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga, I’m the bangaran—)
(Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga) I’m the bangaran—
(Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga, I’m the bangaran—)
(Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga; I know) I’m the bangaran—
Close to the edge, I can feel it inside
Bodies on bodies and sparks ’bout to fly
Yeah, I, I
I’m ’bout to lose my mind, mind
(I’m the bangaran—) Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga
(I’m the bangaran—) Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga
(I’m the bangaran— bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga) Blinding lights
(I’m the bangaran— bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga) Welcome to the riot (I, I, I, I)
I’m a rebel (Rebel), I’m a danger (Danger)
I’m a mover (Mover) for freedom
Let me light you, light you up, let me light you up
Come on, let me pull you in so deep, I’m gon’ leave you weak
(I know) I’m the bangaran—
(Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga, I’m the bangaran—)
(Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga) I’m the bangaran—
(Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga, I’m the bangaran—)
(Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga; I know) I’m the bangaran— (Ooh)
Bangaranga — song translation
Rise,
Surrender to the shine of blinding lights,
No one will sleep tonight –
Welcome to the riot.
Rise,
Surrender to the shine of blinding lights,
No one will sleep tonight –
Welcome to the riot.
(I am Bangaranga) Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga
(Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga
(I am Bangaranga) Blinding lights,
Welcome to the riot.
I am Bangaranga.
I am both an angel and a demon,
Crazy for no reason.
I am fire and I am temptation,
I do not follow – I lead.
Let me ignite you,
Let me lift you to the heavens.
I will draw you into all this,
That the ground will slip from under your feet.
Rise,
Surrender to the shine of blinding lights,
No one will sleep tonight –
Welcome to the riot.
(I am Bangaranga) Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga
(Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga
(I am Bangaranga) Blinding lights,
Welcome to the riot.
I am Bangaranga.
I stand on the very edge
And feel it with all my being.
Bodies merge in the crowd,
Sparks are about to ignite into flames.
Yes, I.
I am losing my mind at this moment.
(I am Bangaranga) Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga
(Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga
(I am Bangaranga) Blinding lights,
Welcome to the riot.
I am Bangaranga.
I am a rebel,
I am danger,
I am the movement of freedom.
Let me ignite you,
Let me lift you to the heavens.
I will draw you into all this,
That the ground will slip from under your feet.
I know –
I am Bangaranga.
Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga — I am Bangaranga,
Bangaranga, bangaranga, bangaranga.
I am Bangaranga.
What the song means
After the announcement of the jury voting results, Dara was asked what the word “Bangaranga” means. Her answer was deep and philosophical.
“Bangaranga” is in each of us. It is a special energy that everyone possesses. It is a connection with the Universe, nature. When you are in harmony, you can be whoever you want,” the artist replied.
Connection with Russia
One of the authors of the composition was the Greek composer Dimitris Kontopoulos, who has been collaborating with Eurovision artists for many years, mainly with Russians, Azerbaijanis, and Greeks.
In particular, together with Philipp Kirkorov, he created Shady Lady for Ani Lorak, who represented Ukraine at Eurovision 2008. He is also the author of the Russian entry Sergey Lazarev’s You Are the Only One for the 2016 contest.
Despite the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine, the composer continues to visit Russia. In his social networks, he periodically shows photos and videos from Moscow. A year ago, Kontopoulos published footage from Red Square against the backdrop of the State Historical Museum.
In addition, in 2026, Dimitris Kontopoulos wrote music for Kirkorov’s play “New Year’s FAIRYTALE” with the song “Idol,” indicating support for relations with the Putinist.
Important events on the musical scene continue to develop, and this undoubtedly reflects current trends. In this context, it is worth noting that events like Eurovision become an important platform for exchanging cultural and musical ideas. This also emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in the field of art. For more detailed information about events in Israel, see Israel News | Nikk.Agency.
